A new report released by the National Bureau of Economic Research males the case that MTV shows such as "16 and Pregnant" and "Teen Mom" reduced the teenage birth rate by 6 percent. These shows depict the realities of being a teen parent, everything from the medical complications, break ups and heartache, lost sleep, and financial hardships. Critics have argued that these shows glamorize teen parenthood as many of the teens from the show have become celebrities as a result of their stories being documented for cameras. The study however, found that in places where viewership was high of these shows, the teenage birth rates declined faster than in areas where it was not. Researchers were able to correlate higher viewership with lower birth rates. This study implies that the media has a significant influence over teens behaviors? What do you think?
